GARDENING TIP OF THE WEEK #1 - DON'T BE AFRAID TO THIN

GARDENING TIP OF THE WEEK #1 - DON'T BE AFRAID TO THIN

HEY Y’ALL!

It’s gardening season and I am so pumped! I asked you guys on instagram if you’d be interested in reading about gardening, some tips and tricks, and I was astounded by the response I received. So I figured it would be easier to keep up week-by-week. I’d love to hear feedback and what else you want to know to have the garden you imagine!

So my tip of the week is: THIN YOUR GARDEN!

What’s thinning? Think of your uncle’s receding hairline.. ok maybe not. But it’s just as it sounds, you’ll be taking some of your new plants OUT of your new garden. This is something so essential for serious growth. It’s something I was SO SO SO nervous to do last year because in my head I kept hearing “No! Don’t!! Everything will die!!”

Not true. In fact, you’ll start to see new, faster growth after removing the excess. For example, I’m growing beets and radishes. I planted plenty of extra seeds to be sure I’d see growth, but of course they were placed much too close to real growth. I started at one end of my row and spaced all of my vegetables 4-6” apart, pulling any small seedlings or growth out in between. Within 48 hours my plants doubled in size because they now have room to grow.

Last year I grew beets, barely thinning them out, it resulted in small, inedible vegetables. Be sure to leave any garden questions below!

Happy Gardening,

xx
