Cool Girl Color Forecast: Autumn 2017
August is quickly rolling to a halt and the leaves will be falling before we know it. September brings my favorite season, Autumn. The season is overflowing with inspiration. Below you will find my color forecast for the upcoming months.
I'm predicting deep, rich, velvet-like colors mixed in with some worn, dusty shades. Blackened violet along with the ever-popular merlot shade will not only be seen on the lips this fall but eyes as well. Pair these deep colors with gold or mustard for a beautiful contrast to complete and balance the look.
Pictured left is the Ultra Matte Liquid Lip 'Guess' by Colourpop Cosmetics. Colourpop offers a stay-proof matte in this stunning Blackened Violet. This one of my favorite lip colors to wear on the lips or as a liquid liner. Colourpop is a cruelty-free brand offering many vegan and eye-safe formulas.
Mustards and yellow-based golds are a staple in the Autumn season. Add gold accents, like a liquid glitter liner, for a pop of shimmer or a gold-based highlight or illuminator drops to maintain your summer glow. Mustard shades radiate a vintage vibe, especially when mixed with Olive or Teal.
Pictured right is Urban Decay Cosmetics Heavy Metal Glitter Liner, another vegan formula. This glitter liner is high impact and is smudge-proof when dry.
Olive or Khaki has been making its way gradually into the hands of beauty enthusiasts and makeup artist worldwide. For some complexions, Olive is going to be a great transition color and will compliment brown and hazel eyes the most.
Teal is the shade I'm foreseeing as the universal color of the season. Teal is going to draw attention to blue and green eyes if worn on the lips and is going to brighten brown and hazel eyes when worn as an eyeshadow or liner. Complement Teal with a pink or coral shade for a pop of color and contrast.
Brick Red is an essential shade this Autumn. Unlike the ever-popular Bordeaux, Brick Red is more of a deep, warm, red rather than a berry shade. Brick Red is going to add warmth and is especially beautiful as a matte lip color, the color itself can also be worn as a 'nude' shade for some deep and warm complexions while other fairer complexions sport it as a bold lip. Pair Brick Red with a dusty gray-blue for a cool girl vibe, blending the gray-blue across the lids and adding some eye-safe gloss, for an editorial look.
Lastly, a cool cognac or rust color is essential, the shade found between a glass of whiskey and a pumpkin spice muffin. Recently I created my own custom colors of lipstick with Finding Ferdinand, a brand devoted to creating the perfect custom mix. I created an army of mini lipsticks for the upcoming season including a deep, neutral brown and a warm, rust color. Choose a rust shade to compliment cool tones like a gray-blue or teal. Or keep it cool with all coffee shop brown shades.
The inspiration for this color palette comes from vintage styles and textures of the 1970's along with traditional tones of Autumn. Fabrics such as corduroy, suede, and velvet have beautiful light-catching textures and deeply saturated tones. I find these colors and textures to be satisfying to the eye and highly inspirational. I, personally, cannot wait to experiment and create with these shades and to see what else inspires fellow artists to create this upcoming season.
